Top 5 Portugal Wedding Venues Near Lisbon
As New York–based wedding planners, we still love to get out of the city and travel to new destinations that offer historic charm and meaningful experiences, and Portugal has quickly become one of our favorite places for exactly that. There are a few things we love about Portugal. For one, it is a short flight from New York and incredibly easy to navigate, with English widely spoken and locals known for their warmth and hospitality. This is a pro for both you and your wedding guests! Whether you choose a weekday or weekend event, we found that venues are well-organized with clear sound ordinances and often come with trusted, in-house caterers and rentals that simplify planning.
When it comes to planning a wedding abroad, Portugal offers an unparalleled blend of history, natural beauty, and architectural elegance. There’s something magical about celebrating in a place where sweeping landscapes, candlelit courtyards, and centuries-old estates create the ideal backdrop for intentional and intimate destination weddings.
Below, we’re sharing our top 5 Portugal wedding venues near Lisbon, each offering its own unique blend of luxury, history, and Portuguese character. We want to highlight venues near Lisbon as it holds the biggest airport for your guests to fly into, as well as plenty of hotels for accomodations. While some of these luxury wedding venues can host larger celebrations, we find that some of them offer the best setting for intimate or medium-sized weddings with long-table layouts, soft candlelight, and heartfelt moments and memories at the center. Check out these luxury wedding venues below for more details on planning your dream Portugal destination wedding.
Location: Sintra, 25 minutes from central Lisbon
Capacity: Up to 100 guests
Hotel Accommodations: This is a wedding venue only, but your guests can stay nearby with lodging and hotels within walking distance.
Vibe: A romantic historic-manor with garden-party charm. With ornate interiors, crystal chandeliers, and sweeping gardens/pools, Camélia Gardens feels like a timeless, fairytale estate. This venue offers in-house rental and does have a required caterer list to choose from. These two things will make the planning seamless, though! Great for couples who envision a refined yet personal celebration for their Portugal wedding venue.
Location: Cascais, near the famous Cabo da Roca
Capacity: Up to 120 guests
Hotel Accommodations: Fortaleza do Guincho is a boutique five-star hotel (Relais & Châteaux) with various rooms and suites overlooking the ocean. When you book this venue, you do have to buyout the entire property and can use it however you would like all weekend. They can host up to 54 guests overnight, but there are plenty of nearby hotels.
Vibe: This venue is in a great location for a destination wedding. With beach access, it is a dramatic and luxurious venue with ocean cliffs, crashing waves, and stunning sea views. The setting is great for couples seeking a chic, coastal destination wedding with a hint of glamour. Ideal for smaller, sophisticated weddings or intimate celebrations with stunning natural backdrops. Since this venue is right on the water, our recommendation is a September or October wedding for less windy weather, as your ceremony and cocktail hour will take place outside.
Location: Sintra, a hillside palace about 30 minutes from Lisbon
Capacity: Up to about 120 guests indoors (Gardens & terraces offer more space for outdoor ceremonies or cocktail receptions)
Hotel Accommodations: This is a luxury palace-hotel with about 30 rooms and suites (including a Royal Suite), making it convenient for destination wedding guests.
Vibe: A regal and neoclassical venue. With frescoed ballrooms, manicured gardens, and sweeping views over Sintra and the mountains, Palácio de Seteais feels like stepping into a fairytale. Your ceremony will take place onsite, offering stunning views of the palace. For couples wanting refined elegance and a sense of history, this venue combines the grandeur of a palace with intimacy and sophistication suited for destination weddings.
Location: Alenquer, in the wine-region northwest of Lisbon; around 25–35 minutes from Lisbon city
Capacity: Up to 270 guests; flexible depending on rooms/tent/garden spaces. If you have less than 60 guests, your dinner will take place inside.
Vibe: Rustic-historic charm with vineyard-region ambience. This 15th-century manor has lovely gardens, indoor halls, and a chapel, making it ideal for couples who want a classic, grounded Portuguese wedding. Great option for larger guest lists while retaining character and flexibility.
Location: Sintra Mountains, about 25–30 minutes from Lisbon
Capacity: With a full buy-out, this venue can host up to 400 guests. We recommend around 150 or less for best use of the venue spaces.
Hotel Accommodations: This venue is part of a full resort (hotel + monastery) with many rooms/suites, catering, and full-service capabilities.
Vibe: Grand yet versatile, from a historic 14th-/16th-century chapel and cloisters to lavish ballrooms and expansive garden grounds. Penha Longa offers historic architecture with the comfort and flexibility of a luxury resort, ideal for large destination weddings or multi-day celebrations. A perfect blend for couples wanting history and luxury. Avenue that accommodates everything from intimate vow-renewals to lavish receptions.
